Dr. Nakashima received his M.D. and Ph.D. in Japan. He is a board-certificated cardiologist in Japan. He used to attend in the division of cardiac intensive care unit at the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center and managed the patients with acute cardiogenic shock and cardiac arrest. Following his participation in the department of emergency medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School as a research scholar in August 2020, he has transitioned to a postdoctoral research position.
His research interests center on cardiovascular emergencies, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and post-cardiac arrest syndrome. More recently, he is engaged with large animal cardiac arrest studies evaluating the hemodynamic impact of mechanical circulatory support on post-cardiac arrest syndrome. He has received a number of research awards. He is also a writing member of the Acute Coronary Syndrome Task Force writing the Japanese Resuscitation Council guidelines in 2015 and 2020, and the Japanese Circulation Societies guidelines in 2018.
