Dr. Craig Galban is an Associate Professor in the Radiology Department. He has over 16 years’ experience with medical imaging with an emphasis on quantitative imaging techniques and image processing and analysis for applications in oncology and pulmonology. His current research focus is on the development of image-based algorithms for improved phenotyping and monitoring of pulmonary diseases. His most significant contribution to pulmonary imaging is the development of parametric response mapping (PRM), which simultaneously quantifies small airways disease and emphysema in patients with COPD. Many of these algorithms, such as PRM, have been integrated into the study design of various US multi-center clinical trials, such as COPDGene and SPIROMICS. He has patented his analytical techniques, and has played a critical role in the funding, through my SBIR, and development of a commercial PRM product as an FDA-approved medical imaging device. His work is currently funded through R01 and Foundation grants. In addition to his clinical research, He is the Director of the Preclinical Imaging and Computational Analysis Shared Recourse for the Michigan Medicine Rogel Cancer Center. He has extensive experience in small animal imaging using various modalities such as MRI, CT and bioluminescence imaging.
