ANN ARBOR - Today, the University of Michigan Department of Biomedical Engineering published the 2023 edition of its annual BME Innovations magazine. Highlighted among this year’s new research and department breakthroughs are two powerful collaborations between the U-M Max Harry Weil Institute for Critical Care Research and Innovation and College of Engineering (COE): a study using portable gas chromatography to detect and distinguish between COVID variants, and a novel sensor that uses body odor to detect a range of diseases and conditions.

Both projects were led by Dr. Xudong (Sherman) Fan, Richard A. Auhll Endowed Professor of Engineering and an associate director of the Weil Institute. Links to the magazine as well as to the original articles as published on the Weil Institute website are included below.
